Webp actually solves a ton of problems if you're a creator rather than a consumer of digital images.
@sun which problems it solve for creator?
@sun
So what you're saying could be summarized as an ounce of laziness by a developer causes the pounds of problems for end users?
It's kind of like the reason everything new sucks really is just piss poor quality programmers.
@fluffy the only shitty programmers here are the ones that didn't update their software immediately to support webp.
@sun
There's a counterpoint to that I believe is valid: a lot of updates break things—I would say it feels like all of them, and make things worse, and so fundamentally the idea of updates has become a contested aspect of being an end user.
Either way, the problem looks like laziness on the part of a programmer.
@fluffy I kind of agree, with the caveat that sometimes after a long time there are improvements and you should improve by including them.
@sun @RedTechEngineer @vertka Avif is limited to max image size of 4K without tiling and then you'll have to deal with seams is my understanding
Webp limited to 16K
